This is the analysis and creation of 404 non-visible spaces.
Augmented Reality, as an extension of our conscious world, is now a common element in design thinking. However, this virtual extension of existing print projects often made little or no sense to me.
Why does my printed poster need to move?
How can I look beyond the often limited accessibility of my works?
Who takes the time?
Many of my questions remain unanswered, for now or forever. Yet, as I looked beyond simplicity, I arrived at an unrestricted view through augmented reality.
No values, no norms, no reality.
Accepting the limits of the human mind led me to extend reality, searching for endless possibilities using AI.
Creating a dream-like space in cooperation with the City Museum Berlin for visitors to wind down after seeing multiple exhibitions was a great opportunity to dive into the art of augmented reality without having to follow certain rules or restrictions.
I worked mainly with the Apple Software „Reality Composter“ and collaborated with various 3D artists to create the experience.
Finding a medium through which the visitor is observing this dream-like space wasn't an easy decision for me as augmented reality experiences are usually viewed via a smartphone or tablet.
As I have never worked with the Reality Composer as well as Blender before, building the experience wasn't easy in the beginning and I still see a problems I'd like to fix.
I would like to add animated fog to add to the „mystic“ atmosphere and really ad to the otherworldly feeling.
I doubt that fully immersing oneself in a virtual dream solely through a smartphone display is possible. That's why I'm considering the option of introducing AR headsets. These headsets have a display that allows to see your surroundings while still engaging with the virtual elements. The goal is to create an experience that isn't entirely virtual, as I value the connection with others and want to make it an environment that can be shared by multiple individuals.
Something I am always trying to incorporate in my projects from the beginning is the aspect of accessibility. To avoid a virtual space that is only tangible through vision I incorporated auditory stimuli such as background ambient noises as well as an audio guide that explains the surroundings.
An accessible audio guide is not yet implemented.
Despite the seemingly endless possibilities, I am constantly confronted with the emptiness that still characterizes AR. The lack of physical touch and the inaccuracy of digital spaces will remain a problem for a long time and it's something I don't want to reconcile with.
Non-finished product.
This is just the beginning of the project as I don't know yet if I want to build it around an already existing space or leave the opportunity for people all around the world to experience this other world.
Leaving the space open for everyone would allow be to use an undefined area which wouldn't be possible in a museum setting.
